Footnote:
The seemingly trite word "Blessed" at the start of Romans 4:7, means a great deal more than merely "fortunate" or something--as we might read it today. "Blessed" (makarios) means: "a condition deeply secure and content and happy in God." It is a lovely allusion to the supreme happiness that comes with a developed soul whose sins have been blotted out by the Divine Love.
That is what I love about exegesis; superficially, one would never suspect that "Blessed" really refers to the joyous state of being in closer harmony with God, until one looks under the surface.
